Selected for exhibition at HeadOn 2024, this series was inspired by the book “Cardinal” by Louise Milligan. From Ballarat, Victoria, George Pell had a meteroric rise through the ranks of the Catholic Church to become Vatican Treasurer and advisor to the Pope. In 2016 the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Abuse discovered horrific stories of abuse of the most vulnerable children. Cardinal George Pell consistently denied knowledge of any wrong doing and famously told the Commission “It was a sad story and of not much interest to me”. Finally in 2018, Pell, Australia's most powerful Catholic, was found guilty of five sexual crimes against children and sentenced to six years' jail. He was the most senior Catholic figure in the world to be charged by police and convicted of child sex offences.
